I’m updating my portfolio, this is one of my latest personal design projects. I created a mockup album cover inspired one of my favorite artists Sam King. If you follow me on Twitter then you’ve probably already seen this project. I created this about a month ago, and I’m going to briefly touch on the process of creating this cover.
Initially, I wanted to re-create his ‘All I need’ album just because the original cover was not as great as the music. However, I was much more inspired by his ‘Dear Lucy Soundtrack’ album so I decided to do that instead.
So the inspiration behind this design was an old cinematic movie. The songs kind played out like a movie in my mind, so I used that as the inspiration for this design. There are a few design trends that I’ve been wanting to incorporate in my projects and the ‘double exposure’ effect was one of them so I thought I’d take this opportunity to use it. I used Helvetica Neue Condensed and Gobold Regular fonts. I also wanted to use his images as the foundation, I find that if I have an image to start with it’s easier to come up with a concept for any design.
This was the original design:
I plan to add a booklet and back cover. This is what it currently looks like as of July 2016 on my Behance portfolio.
Sam King is truly a talented artist so I do hope you take the time to check out his music, and you can find out more about him at samkingtv.com
I hope you enjoyed this overview of my latest project. If you want to see the current version of this project you can go to my Behance portfolio here.
